About the Moderator 

image of Amira Hasenbush

Amira is a family formation attorney, focusing on adoption, surrogacy, sperm donation and egg donation. She primarily drafts agreements and represents clients in parentage judgments and stepparent, second parent, adult and independent adoptions. She also represents litigants in complex disputes over parentage as well as the use and ownership of eggs, sperm and embryos. She is an active member of the National LGBT Bar Association’s Family Law Institute, the Assisted Reproductive Technology Subcommittee of the American Bar Association, and the Society for Ethics in Egg Donation and Surrogacy.

Prior to taking her law practice full-time, Amira spent five and a half years as the Jim Kepner Law and Policy Fellow for the Williams Institute, where she did research and published reports on LGBT law and policy, including discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity, family law issues for transgender parents and children, and the legal needs of people living with HIV. She graduated second in her class from UCLA School of Law and holds a Masters in Public Health from UCLA School of Public Health. Amira has been published extensively and cited and featured in a variety of media outlets and journals, including the Boston Globe, ABC News and the New England Journal of Medicine.
