Biography
Thomas L. Simpson grew up in Southern California and graduated from Santa Clara University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts degree, and in 1973 with a Juris Doctorate. He is a member of the Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity. He was admitted to practice law in California in 1974 and is also admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, the United States District Court, Central District of California, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
Mr. Simpson was certified by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization as a Certified Family Law Specialists in their inaugural class of 1980. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML), the highest designation a family law practitioner can achieve. He has also served as Vice President for Membership of the Southern California chapter of the AAML and as President of the chapter in 2011-2012. He is the only AAML Fellow in the Glendale-Burbank area. He is also a member of the Association of Certified Family Law Specialists.
Mr. Simpson has served as President of the Glendale Bar Association, Los Angeles County Bar Association Executive Committee, Los Angeles Superior Court Family Law Mediation Panel, as well as served at Judge Pro Tem for the Los Angeles Superior Court. He is a regular court-appointed mediator for the family law courts, has been a speaker and panelist for the Family Law Trial Institute of the Los Angeles County Bar, and the AAML Trial Advocacy Institute. He has qualified as an expert for Plaintiff and Defense in many legal malpractice cases involving complex issues of family law.
Mr. Simpson is currently a member of the Family Law Sections of the California State Bar, Los Angeles County Bar, and Beverly Hills Bar Associations. He is also a member of the Glendale and Pasadena Bar Associations. He was elected to the Chancery Club of Los Angeles in 2012, and was appointed to the Judicial Nominees Evaluation (JNE) Commission for the term commencing in 2016.
Mr. Simpson’s practice has focused on family law for over 35 years. He is an experienced litigator who also knows how to settle cases. His experience in child custody matters, child and spousal support enforcement, complex property issues, and mediated agreements rank him among Southern California’s best family law attorneys. He is rated AV by Martindale-Hubbell, their highest rating, and is a Southern California Super Lawyer as chosen by Super Lawyers magazine.
Mr. Simpson served in the United States Army Reserves, receiving an Honorable Discharge with the rank of Captain.
