Ms. Shining is an accomplished trial lawyer with expertise in both litigation and corporate counsel regarding intellectual property including patents, trademarks and copyrights. She also has negotiated licensing agreements on behalf of performers, content originators and entrepreneurs with Fortune 500 companies, television studios and product manufacturers. She regularly engages in trademark and copyright registrations for her clients, which comprise a wide variety of small businesses, artists and creators.
A graduate of the University of Michigan School of Law (1990) and Michigan State University (1987), Ms. Shining has a coordinate Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry and Science and Technology Studies. She is a Registered Patent Attorney (1990) and is also licensed to practice law in California, Illinois and before numerous federal district courts. She is a member of numerous bar associations, including the Los Angeles County Bar Association (LACBA) where she is an Executive Committee member of the Small Firm and Solo Practitioner Section, the Consumer Attorneys of California (CAOC) (member of CAOC’s Ad Hoc Committee on the State Bar’s Task Force for Access Through Innovation to Legal Services (ATILS)) and Consumer Attorneys Association of Los Angeles (CAALA).
In 2019, she was appointed as a delegate for LACBA to the California Conference of Bar Delegates. She also was recently appointed to be a member of the LACBA Presidential Commission on Women in the Law. She has written numerous articles for the CAALA Advocate, the CAOC Forum and the Los Angeles Daily Journal. Her pro bono activities include lecturing at the Los Angeles County Law Library on Patent, Trademark and Copyright issues for entrepreneurs and small business owners, as well as representing low income individuals in domestic violence temporary restraining orders. She also is proficient in HTML, Perl and CGI-scripting and computer graphic arts.
