Alan B. Gordon represents California attorneys facing the frightening and potentially life-altering prospect of professional discipline.

If you are a California attorney who has received a letter from the State Bar of California concerning an allegation of professional misconduct that has been made against you, it is in your best interest promptly to secure qualified counsel to advise you and to respond to the State Bar on your behalf. And if the matter should proceed to the filing in the State Bar Court of a formal notice of disciplinary charges, it is imperative that you be represented in the proceeding by an attorney who is familiar with the process and who has a thorough understanding of the California State Bar Act and the Rules of Professional Conduct, and of the extensive body of case authority applying and interpreting those statutes and rules. Alan B. Gordon, with over 18 years of experience as a prosecutor with the State Bar’s Office of the Chief Trial Counsel, is here to help.

Mr. Gordon is also available to assist aspiring lawyers who have been denied certification of good moral character by the State Bar’s Committee of Bar Examiners and who wish to contest such denial, former attorneys seeking to establish their rehabilitation and fitness to practice and thereby to regain their license to practice law, and anyone else caught up in any legal matter in the field of attorney discipline, licensing, and the regulation of the legal profession in California.

Alan B. Gordon is a 1986 graduate of the University of California, Hastings College of the Law, and has been a licensed attorney in California for over 30 years. He’s devoted the bulk of his legal career to the public sector, including more than 18 years spent with the Office of the Chief Trial Counsel of the State Bar of California. Starting as a Deputy Trial Counsel, advancing to the position of Supervising Trial Counsel, and eventually holding for more than five years a management position as Assistant Chief Trial Counsel, Mr. Gordon has: overseen and supervised investigations into complaints of attorney misconduct; prosecuted and supervised the prosecution in the State Bar Court of violations of the State Bar Act and Rules of Professional Conduct; represented and overseen the representation of the State Bar of California in opposing petitions for reinstatement to practice by disbarred attorneys and by former attorneys who had resigned their licenses to practice; represented the Committee of Bar Examiners and overseen such representation in moral character proceedings in the State Bar Court, and; overseen and supervised investigations and prosecutions of actions by the State Bar for the Superior Court’s assumption of jurisdiction over abandoned law practices, law practices of attorneys who have died or otherwise become incapacitated, and over law practices operated illegally by non-lawyers. Of all of his accomplishments at the Office of the Chief Trial Counsel, Mr. Gordon is most proud of his record of success in representing the State Bar in numerous matters on appeal to the State Bar Court’s Review Department. Mr. Gordon is now in private practice putting his experience, knowledge, and skills to work representing attorneys facing disciplinary investigations and prosecution, aspiring lawyers who have been denied certification of good moral character and who wish to contest such denial, former attorneys seeking to establish their rehabilitation and regain their licenses to practice law, and anyone else caught up in any legal matter in the field of attorney discipline, licensing, and the regulation of the legal profession.

Mr. Gordon is a member of the Association of Discipline Defense Counsel (disciplinedefensecounsel.org), the Association of Professional Responsibility Lawyers (aprl.net), and of the Solo and Small Firm Section of the California Lawyers Association (formerly of the State Bar of California).
